Tying a consumer to a brand through locked databases was always a lazy substitute for superior hardware design. Algorithmic coaching, sleep analysis, and recovery tracking must justify their existence on a daily basis, independent of where the underlying data points are stored.
For consumers, the ability to bridge Google Health and Apple Health without intermediary apps is an overdue triumph of common sense over ecosystem control. For hardware manufacturers, it serves as a clear warning. The era of relying on trapped personal data to guarantee hardware upgrades is officially over.
